“I’d say you need a week’s vacation and three boyfriends in rapid succession,” she shoots back, without hesitating. “You’re not nuts, Frannie, but you just work too hard.”
“Easy for you to say.”
“I wish,” she says. “Hey, I’m gonna go out to the rec center for a little bit before my show. That guy you wanted to see should be back here around two-ish.”
“What guy?” I ask, wondering only after I’ve asked if she answered the door like that. Her green bathrobe is draped over the back of the utilitarian ‘easy’ chair near the door, so my secondary panic is assuaged somewhat.
“That detective guy,” she says, picking up her robe. “Says you met him at the Beanery this morning.”
Coat Jerk?! “He wasn’t wearing a brown coat, was he?”
“Oh yeah,” she says, grinning. “Big long leather coat. Looked kind of awesome, in a Cowboy Bebop kind of way.”
“You didn’t tell him where I was, did you?” I ask, frantic.
“Frannie, who is this guy?”
“I don’t know,” I say. “I just met him this morning. I mean, I didn’t meet him. He tried to chat me up and I thought I told him to get lost.”
“He said something like that,” Kyle says, reaching into the pocket of the bathrobe. “Said I should give you this, and it should make more sense.”
